Graduation Day!

It’s finally here.  As of 10-February-2012, I am a graduate from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) and a bona-fide, certified Health Counselor and Coach!  Woo hoooo!

I can’t say enough good things about the school, the staff, the curriculum, and of course, the incredible visiting teachers.  Where else could you receive formal instruction from such integrative medicine experts as Dr. Andrew Weil, Dr. Deepak Chopra, Paul Pitchford, Dr. David Katz, Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Neil Barnard…I wish I had the space to list them all.

It has been a long year, indeed, working full-time and going to school, but it was so worth it.  IIN exposes the students to over 100 different dietary theories, and at many points, I became confused.  Conventional wisdom had me believing a lot of things that I have since been able to challenge or have found to be untrue.  But one aspect of clarity that I did come away with was with regard to the concept of “Bio-Individuality” – that each individual has specific needs and chemistry, and that what may be the perfect nutrition for me might actually make my daughter or son malnourished.  Hmmmmm.

I’ve met some wonderful, caring, and fun people.  I’ve been trying all kinds of different whole foods, and this has been really fun.  I’ll be sharing these experiences with you all – what works, what doesn’t – for me, so that maybe you can consider some of my insights with regard your own health.

The bottom line.  It’s really all about the journey.  Of course, this was challenging and really difficult at times, but what isn’t?  At the end of the day, I am so much happier and healthier because of my new knowledge, and I can now take this to others and help them live longer, happier lives.  How cool is that?
