About

Welcome to my website and thank you so much for your interest! A little about me: I play many roles, the most important of which are proud Mom to my two adult children and my best friends ever, and Grandma-Jennifer to my 3 beautiful and absolutely awesome grandchildren. And also, loving owner of my two very special friends: Kona and Jack, my canine boys.

At play, when I’m not reading, I’m an outdoors-person and my recreational appetite takes me hiking, backpacking, peak-bagging, skiing, camping, and exploring whenever possible.

Originally from central Michigan, I moved to Carson City, Nevada when I was a teenager. I stayed there most of my adult life but, since my primary archetype is that of Explorer, I have always felt the strongest pull to learn about and see more of the world. As a result, I recently relocated to Portland, Oregon.

Professionally, I’ve been a successful corporate IT leader for the last couple of decades, but I also love analysis and research, and I have an insatiable interest and passion in achieving optimal human potential and vitality. This was the catalyst that ultimately changed my professional direction toward health coaching.

I decided to go back to school to become a Board Certified Holistic Health and Lifestyle Coach. I received my education from the world-renowned Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York City, the largest nutrition school in the world There I studied under such esteemed integrative medicine and nutritional experts as Dr. Andrew Weil, Dr. Deepak Chopra, Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Barry Sears, and many others. In 2012 I earned my Holistic Health Coach certification from the American Association of Drugless Practitioners.

Crisis Narrowly Averted

Of course the picture is not entirely rosy, it never is, is it? The life of a successful corporate IT professional is as one would imagine: deadlines (sometimes impossible deadlines), long hours, and multi-tasking. Add to that night school, serious health issues for my Labrador Retriever (ruptured and partially ruptured CCLs), an out-of-state move, new job, a side business…you get the picture.

I recall a visit to my acupuncturist, Dr. Bruce Eichelberger, back in 2012. I went to him because I didn’t know what else to do. I was having major symptoms of intra-cranial pressure that felt like a severe sinus infection. The pressure was located just behind my nose and between my eyes. It literally felt like a fist inside my head, pushing down on my upper palate.

When I saw Dr. Bruce, I had already seen several medical professionals: my nurse practitioner, an ear-nose-throat specialist, and had had a CAT scan of my sinuses as well. The CAT scan showed nothing, by then I was on the third round of increasingly stronger prescription antibiotics. Despite taking probiotics, my digestive system was a wreck. And yet the pressure was as intense as ever.

Dr. Bruce performed a thorough interview and spent about 25 minutes just checking my pulses, during which he smiled and said quietly, “Ahhhh…professional pulse.” Which basically called BS on the fact that I had developed a flawless poker face to present to everyone else. He knew that my body inside was wreaking havoc inside and completely rebelling from the years of this.

He told me that my adrenal glands, those critical components that release hormones in response to stress, were on the verge of giving up. I had been pushing myself waaaay too hard. Once your adrenal glands give up, they cannot be revived. Hello: complete exhaustion.

He treated me accordingly, and guess what. After the second visit, the pressure was completely gone. My body was back in balance for the time being. But I knew from my training that adrenal fatigue is very, very real, and impacts millions of people, especially those in high pressure occupations. I felt it was only a matter of time before my adrenal glands would give out for good.

So I relentlessly researched and tested hundreds (thousands??) of lifestyle tips and tricks in order to add more restoration, balance, and time into my life. And I’ve distilled them into a core set of strategies that I use today to keep myself out of that place of adrenal fatigue danger for good!
